The future of logistics labeling

The Faubel-Logistics Label is a battery-free e-paper display with integrated RFID technology that has been specially developed to meet the requirements of intralogistics, merchandise management and transport container management.

Thanks to its energy-efficient and flexible properties, it offers a sustainable alternative to conventional paper or plastic labels. The label can be written to contactlessly via NFC/RFID and only requires energy when updating, making it completely maintenance-free.

Thanks to its integration into the OPAL label management software, the FLL is seamlessly integrated into SAP-supported logistics processes. This enables companies to digitize and centrally control their labeling processes and improve data accuracy in the supply chain.

Advantages of integration

Automatisierte Prozesse

The OPAL label management software enables a direct connection to SAP, whereby label content can be automatically generated and transferred to the Faubel-Logistics label.

Flexible Aktualisierung

Thanks to NFC/RFID technology, the label can be written with current logistics data within a short distance.

Reduzierung von Papierverbrauch

The battery-free technology of the FLL reduces the ecological footprint and contributes to sustainability in logistics.

Erhöhte Transparenz

All relevant logistics data is visible directly on the label and can be fed back into the SAP system.

Einfache Implementierung

The solution can be easily integrated into existing logistics and merchandise management processes.

Process flow

Writing a smart label is similar to printing a label on paper. Instead of printing directly to a physical printer, the label is sent to a virtual printer. This is the mobile device with which the smart labels can be overwritten via RFID.

Frequently asked questions & answers

The Faubel Smart Label has a monochrome e-paper display and therefore cannot display colors.

1D and 2D barcodes, as well as Texts and graphics can generally be displayed without any problems.

Compared to a label printer, the lower resolution however, it may be necessary to Font size and the x-dimension of barcodes accordingly to ensure good readability and scannability.

  • 1.5 inch 200 x 200 pixels / 188 dpi / without IP certification
  • 2.7 inch 176 x 264 pixels / 118dpi / without IP certification
  • 2.9 inch / 128 x 296 pixels / 112 dpi / IP65 certification
  • 4.2 inch / 400 x 300 pixels / 120 dpi / IP65 certification

The printer is integrated into Windows as an IPP device with its network IP. One printer is created for each label size and RFID device.

The technology used for data transmission is NFC (Near Field Communication) –> The mobile device must be placed directly on the smart label that is to be written to.

Flexible options for device communication
Our Android app offers a simple print function that allows you to work quickly and easily. Please note: This function does not support UID feedback and does not allow additional data to be written to the device memory – this is technically limited by the print protocol.

We provide two powerful alternatives for extended requirements:

  • SmartDeviceService (JAR file)
  • Android SDK

These solutions allow you to establish bidirectional communication with the device. This allows data to be written to the memory in a targeted manner and important information such as the UID or the current memory content to be read out.

Both services run in the background and can be seamlessly integrated into your existing software or Android app – for maximum flexibility and control.

Conclusion

Our tests have shown that Smart Labels from CCL Faubel can be combined very easily with OPAL label management. A company that opts for this solution benefits not only from the automated processes and reduced operating costs, but also from the quick and easy integration of the solution.
